PSAT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test)

What is this test? The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test that provides first-hand practice for the SAT. It also provides Grade 11 students a chance to enter National Merit scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. Students will also receive feedback on their strengths/weaknesses for college studies.

When is the test? The PSAT is administered nation-wide on two days only in October each year. The 2018 PSAT was administered at East Ridge on October 24, 2018. This is one of three tests administered that day. The other two free tests were the mock-ACT for juniors and the pre-ACT for sophomores.

Who takes this test? The PSAT is only available to Grade 10 and 11 students. This optional test is a rigorous national assessment for Grade 11 students and is used to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sophomores may take it as a practice SAT test; they may not enter the National Merit scholarship competition until their junior year.

How to register? The 2018 PSAT registration is closed .
