PSAT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test)

What is this test? The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized optional test that provides first-hand practice for the SAT. Who takes this test? The PSAT is only available to Grade 10 and 11 students. This optional test is a rigorous national assessment for Grade 11 students and is used to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sophomores may take it as a practice SAT test; they may not enter the National Merit scholarship competition until their junior year.
