Two East Ridge High School seniors receive appointments to U.S. Service Academies

Alex Fournier, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, Will Budzyn Two seniors from East Ridge High School have received appointments to U.S. Service Academies. Alex Fournier will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Will Budzyn will attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.

Alex and Will are among eight seniors recommended for U.S. Service Academies by Congresswoman Betty McCollum.

“I’m honored to recognize the Fourth District individuals who are set to attend four U.S. Service Academies this fall. I’m inspired by what they have already achieved and am proud to support their ongoing commitment to serve our country,” said McCollum.

Appointments to the military academies are highly competitive. Upon graduation, U.S. Air Force Academy graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force. U.S. Merchant Marine Academy graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and an Unlimited USCG License as a Merchant Marine Officer. Graduates from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy are also commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserve Strategic Sealift Officer Program or if accepted, as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army or U.S. Air Force.
