March 27, 2020 Update

A Note from the ERHS Admin Team:

Greetings Parents/Guardians and Families,

We are looking forward to the start of Distance Learning on Monday!  Our teachers have been diligently working to prepare. They have altered their instructional plans for virtual delivery and they are excited to get Trimester 3 underway. More importantly, they are energized to be able to interact with all of their students again!

Students are expected to check into all of their classes daily via Schoology. Teachers will be posting learning materials each day. It is suggested that they develop some sort of schedule for themselves that will allow them adequate time to complete their coursework. Teachers are available from 10:00-12:00pm and 1:00-3:00pm each day via email, Schoology and phone. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need assistance.

Please note that while the building is closed, administrators and some clerical staff are still working in the office daily and are available if needed.

Continue to take good care of yourself and your families. Stay healthy and stay safe.

Student Pick up of Academic Materials for Trimester 3:

Quarantined Students and Families:  UPDATE: DELIVERIES WILL HAPPEN TODAY. ITEMS WILL BE LEFT AT YOUR MAIN ENTRANCE. If you and/or your child are in a quarantined situation, we can make arrangements for delivery of your academic materials. Please send an email to Assistant Principal Brian Boothe at

Chromebook Repairs:

During Distance Learning, we are still prepared to repair Chromebooks should it be needed. Transactions of broken devices for loaners will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly from 1:00-3:00pm.

In the event that something  happens to a student device, please have your child email our Media Center Specialist, Lori McCrady, . She will make arrangements with you based upon the specific issues and potential repair needs of your device.  Ms. McCrady will plan to use email to communicate information with your child about your Chromebook. Please be sure he/she/they are checking their district email regularly.

Hybrid/Embedded Health:

All students have access to their Health class on Schoology. Coursework for this class can be completed independently throughout the trimester. Students will not have structured health lessons via other classes during Distance Learning.

In the event a student is ill and unable to participate in Distance Learning, please continue to use the Attendance Line to report that. We will get the information into our system so teachers are aware. (651) 425-2300.

Grading during Distance Learning:

With the understanding that we need and want to be flexible during this period of Distance Learning, our school and our district  procedures are still being discussed. We will share additional information as it comes available.

Graduation Update:

We are getting a lot of questions about plans for graduation.  At this date and time, no changes have been made to our graduation plans.  As this fluid situation continues, we will follow CDC guidelines and work with district leadership to keep you updated if there are any changes.

Ticket requests for the ceremony  and graduation fees are now scheduled to open on May 1st.  To see the current timeline, please visit our graduation/seniors website here.

ERHS Activities/Athletics:

The Minnesota State High School League has All Sports/Activities/Clubs suspended until May 4 following the direction of Governor Walz.

Unfortunately with school being closed The spring play, The Hobbit, has been canceled.

Prom 2020 scheduled for April 25 has been canceled. We would like to  look into planning other special events for all students, especially our Seniors, throughout the month of May should school resume.

All school facilities are shut down, student athletes please stay off school fields, stadium, indoor facilities until school resumes or further communication is shared, thank you so much for your support during this difficult time.

Planning for Distance Learning:

  • Distance Learning is intended to help students continue their education in the event that longer-term school cancellations are needed due to COVID-19. Distance Learning will ensure students continue to receive engaging learning activities with daily interaction with their teacher(s).
  • The state of Minnesota has directed school districts to use these two weeks (March 16-27) to plan. Distance Learning will not begin until March 30, if a longer-term school cancellation is necessary.
  • Along with planning for Distance Learning, teachers will be reaching out to families through Friday, March 20 to ask about access to devices, internet, meals and additional services. Our goal is for each middle and high school student to have access to a device and internet during Distance Learning. Families who do not have access to a device and/or internet are encouraged to access the District resources.
  • In the meantime, please become familiar with our distance learning plans below.  More information is available here.
    • Should we begin Distance Learning for East Ridge students, it will be self-directed, independent learning. Students will be given assignments for each course through Schoology.
    • Teachers will post lesson plans daily, by 10 a.m. Monday-Friday.
    • Teachers will be available via Schoology, email or phone between the hours of 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.
    • Distance Learning activities will vary in the length of time required to complete the assignment. Each class assignment will take approximately 50-60 percent of the time students traditionally spend in class during a regular school day. Teachers will document attendance as students complete assignments and interact with content.

Food Resources:

South Washington County Schools will be providing grab and go meals to anyone under the age of 18 or those enrolled in our Next Step program. To register for meals, please complete the questionnaire.

The registration includes:

  • Food deliveries to families twice a week (If available. Families will be contacted with more information)
  • Grab and go food options at Crestview Elementary

Translated Information for about COVID-19:

Families who do not have access to a device and/or internet are encouraged to access the following resources.
  • Comcast is offering two months free to new Internet Essentials customers in response to anticipated emergency measures associated with the COVID-19.
  • Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots, and then launch a browser.
  • CenturyLink offers Lifeline, a low-cost internet service, to individuals who qualify.
  • South Washington County Schools is providing this information as a courtesy to families, not as an endorsement of the services provided. Additional internet resources will be shared as we become aware of them.

Schoology Information for Parents:

As we prepare for  Distance Learning it is a great reminder that parents/guardians should take full advantage of the tools in Schoology.  Please take a few minutes to ensure you have your Schoology Parent account activated and connected to your student.  This website has all of the information a parent/guardian would need to set up their Schoology account.
