District 833 announces selection of Assistant Principal for East Ridge High School

East Ridge High School (ERHS) is going to have a known colleague on their administrative team effective with the 2017-18 school year. Currently the Activities Director for Woodbury High School, Jason Gonnion has been selected as the newest member of the ERHS administrative team in the capacity of an assistant principal, pending School Board approval.

ERHS Principal Jim Smokrovich said, “I am very pleased that Mr. Gonnion will be joining our East Ridge administrative team. He brings a wealth of experiences as a teacher, a dean of students and as a principal in charge of activities at Woodbury High School. Jason is driven to succeed in order to meet the needs of our students and staff. He is unconditionally motivated to positively impact student achievement and the climate and culture of our school as a relationship-driven, student-centered individual.”

Serving as the Activities Director since 2011, Gonnion also served as a dean of students at Forest Lake High School for three years after teaching from 1998 through 2008 in both the Stillwater School District and at Tartan High School. His educational background includes administrative licensure from Saint Mary’s University, a Masters of Education in Physical Education from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Of the opportunity to become part of the East Ridge community, Gonnion said, “As a current District 833 employee, I’ve been part of several initiatives that support the East Ridge High School community and in each instance, I’ve been impressed with the pride and professionalism exuded by administrators, educators and families. My commitment to academic rigor, activities, relationships and technology will continue as I serve East Ridge students and families.”

Gonnion replaces Todd Hochman, who retired at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
