Minnesota Orchestra Visits East Ridge High School

The East Ridge High School Orchestra program was proud to host the Minnesota Orchestra Friday, September 15th.  The Minnesota Orchestra came to East Ridge HS to perform as part of their Symphonic Adventures for High Schools series.  East Ridge is the first of three high schools chosen to host the orchestra this year.   The opportunity was a result of applications submitted, work with the director of education and correspondence and partnerships with members of the orchestra.

As part of the Symphonic Adventures, the entire Minnesota Orchestra performs a one-hour concert designed for secondary students.  The program is hosted by Sam Bergman, violist, who introduced students to the music, key concepts in the music and a historical background.  Students were also given an opportunity to ask questions of orchestra members and Maestro Vanska.

The concert began with Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture, Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess and concluded with Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.  This concert was conducted by principal conductor and Music Director Osmo Vanska.
